Fort Atkinson, WI - Hoard's Dairyman Farm Creamery's Sark branded Butterkase cheese was awarded a gold medal award at the U.S. Championship Cheese Contest held March 4-6, 2025, in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
"It is a great honor for our Sark Butterkase to be awarded a gold medal in the highly competitive open class, semi-soft cheese category in this national contest," said Ricardo Gutierrez, Hoard's Dairyman Farm Creamery Director. "The milk from our dairy farm and the expert craftsmanship of our cheesemaker are what sets this cheese apart, and we are pleased the top U.S. judges agree," he added.
The United States Championship Cheese Contest is the nation's premier technical cheese, butter, and yogurt competition. The U.S. Contest has been hosted by the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association biennially since 1981, and entries are evaluated by a team of skilled technical judges nationwide. Starting from a maximum possible 100 points, deductions are made by each judge in the areas of flavor, body and texture, salt, color, finish, packaging, and other appropriate attributes. Gold, silver, and bronze medals are awarded to the top three entries in each class.
In other cheese categories Hoard's Dairyman Farm Creamery's Island Havarti took fifth place out of seventeen entries in the contest's Havarti category.
