That was due to generally favorable weather in many key growing areas. As of Sunday, 69% of U.S. corn is called good to excellent, up 1% on the week, with 93% planted and 78% emerged. In the first rating of the season, 67% of soybeans are in good to excellent shape, with planting at 84% and emergence at 63%. 52% of winter wheat is in good to excellent condition, 2% above a week ago, with 83% of the crop headed, while 3% has been harvested, matching the five-year average. 50% of spring wheat is rated good to excellent, 5% higher, and 95% is planted and 73% of the crop has emerged. 49% of cotton is reported as good to excellent, 12% below a year ago, 66% has been planted and 8% is squaring. 75% of the rice crop is said to be good to excellent, down 2% on from last week, with planting at 97% and emergence at 85%. 46% of sorghum is planted, compared to 48% on average. 42% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are good to excellent, a week-to-week improvement of 1%.
