USDA Issues Crop Conditions Report: 87% Of Corn Planted, 76% Of Soybeans

That followed another week of generally favorable planting weather in much of the Midwest and Plains, but some key states are behind average due to heavy rainfall. The USDA says 87% of U.S. corn is planted and 67% has emerged, both ahead of the respective five-year averages, with 68% of the crop in good to excellent condition. 76% of soybeans are planted, compared to 68% on average, with 50% emerged, compared to the normal rate of 40%. 50% of winter wheat is called good to excellent, 2% lower than last week, with 75% of the crop headed, compared to 70% on average. 87% of spring wheat is planted and 60% has emerged, faster than usual, and 45% of the crop is rated good to excellent. 52% of cotton is planted and 3% is squaring, behind average for both, because of rain delays in the southeast. 93% of rice is planted, matching the typical pace, and 82% has emerged, above average, with 77% rated good to excellent, 2% less than a week ago. 39% of sorghum is planted, compared to the five-year average of 38%. 41% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are reported as good to excellent, a week-to-week improvement of 1%. The USDA's weekly national crop progress and condition numbers run through the end of November.
