July 20, 2010 – March 2, 2025
Jace Keg Scherbarth, a cherished son, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend, passed away on March 2, 2025, at the tender age of 14 in Reva, South Dakota. Born on July 20, 2010, in Chadron, Nebraska, Jace’s life was a testament to the power of joy, creativity, and the enduring strength of family bonds.
From his earliest days in Rushville, Jace displayed an unquenchable curiosity and zest for life that would become his hallmark. As he grew, he attended school through the eighth grade in Rushville and Hay Springs, Nebraska, where he was known for his loving nature and creative spirit. Jace was a bright light in the lives of his classmates and teachers, always eager to lend a helping hand and share a smile.
Jace’s passion for the great outdoors was evident to all who knew him. An avid hunter and outdoorsman, he found peace and excitement in the natural world. Whether he was stalking wildlife in the quiet of dawn or simply enjoying the solitude of the plains, Jace embraced the beauty around him. His love for music complemented his outdoor pursuits; Jace enjoyed playing and experimenting with all musical instruments, an interest that brought harmony to both his life and those around him.
A natural mechanic, Jace dedicated countless hours to working on machinery, ranching, and farming in Nebraska and South Dakota. His handy skills were not just a necessity but a joy, as he could often be found fixing what was broken or improving what already worked. Jace’s knack for problem-solving and willingness to tackle any challenge were traits that endeared him to all in his community.
Jace’s character was defined by his loving nature. He was a beacon of kindness and creativity, always thinking outside the box and approaching life with a warm heart. His family was the cornerstone of his world, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Jace leaves behind a legacy of love, as he is survived by his devoted parents, Quinten Scherbarth and Jeny Meyer; maternal grandparents, Vaughn and Lois Meyer; paternal grandparents, Allen and Ruthann Scherbarth; paternal great-grandmother, Maryann Wellnitz; three aunts; three uncles; and nine cousins, all of whom will miss him dearly.
In the words of Helen Keller, “What we have once enjoyed we can never lose; all that we love deeply becomes a part of us.” Jace’s spirit and the memories he created with his loved ones will forever be a part of the fabric of their lives. His influence will continue to be felt in the way his family and friends approach life with love and a can-do attitude.
As we bid farewell to Jace Keg Scherbarth, we celebrate the joy he brought into our lives and the many ways he touched our hearts. His journey on earth was brief, but the impact of his loving and creative soul will resonate for generations to come. We take comfort in knowing that Jace is now at peace, surrounded by the vast beauty he so adored in life, and that his legacy of kindness and ingenuity will forever be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
