American Feed Industry Assn Secures USDA Funding To Advance Animal Food Exports In Emerging Markets

Source: American Feed Industry Association news release ARLINGTON, Va. - The American Feed Industry Association is pleased to announce it has been awarded $242,600 in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Emerging Markets Program (EMP) for the animal food sector's continued market expansion into Vietnam. The EMP will promote exports of U.S. animal food products by continuing to grow the business-to-business relationships that are vital to the success and progression of the U.S. animal food industry. "We appreciate the continued support from the U.S. Department of Agriculture through the Emerging Markets Program," said AFIA President and CEO Constance Cullman. "This partnership enables us to expand opportunities for U.S. animal food products in promising global markets, fostering long-term growth for our industry and reinforcing the value of American agriculture on the world stage." Animal food exports to Vietnam increased 40% between 2023 and 2024, totaling $2.8 million. When the AFIA launched market development programs in the country in 2021, animal food exports stood at just $1.6 million - demonstrating the significant impact that the USDA's market access programs and AFIA's leadership in developing a concerted program targeting that country has had on the overall growth of U.S. animal food exports into Vietnam. "Exports drive growth for American animal food manufacturers and that growth extends beyond individual companies," Cullman said. "The animal food sector plays a vital role in supporting U.S. jobs and strengthening our economy. We look forward to USDA's continued support in expanding opportunities abroad and hope AFIA members will continue to leverage the valuable market access we have helped secure." Through the EMP, the Foreign Agricultural Service provides cost-share funding for technical assistance activities, such as feasibility studies, market research, sectorial assessments, orientation visits, specialized training and business workshops. The AFIA takes full advantage of implementing these programs for its members. One such opportunity is the AFIA Trade Mission to Vietnam, taking place Oct. 20-23, 2025. This trade mission offers participants the chance to engage directly with Vietnam's growing animal food industry by meeting buyers and touring facilities to better understand market potential and local needs.
