BROOKINGS, S.D. – The 2025 SkillsX by 4-H conference will explore leadership through board games and strategic thinking.

SkillsX by 4-H is from June 2-5, 2025, on the South Dakota State University campus in Brookings. Anyone age 13-18 is welcome to register. Registration cost is $350 by April 20 or $375 if registered by May 2. Registration is required and available at extension.sdstate.edu/events and search “skills”.

The annual conference, hosted by the SDSU Extension 4-H program and planned by the State 4-H Ambassadors, provides youth an opportunity to develop their leadership and life skills through an on-campus experience. The conference creates a fun and inclusive environment for youth to develop their potential.

“Attending SkillsX by 4-H builds great friendships and leadership skills. When you leave this conference, you will leave with the satisfaction of knowing you learned a lot while having so much fun with amazing people,” said Julia Tinker, State 4-H Ambassador and SkillsX by 4-H committee vice president. “The memories from this conference will forever hold a special place in my heart.”

Tagged, “Leadership: The Ultimate Game of Strategy”, this year’s theme will utilize popular board games to help participants meet new people, learn workplace skills, engage in workshops and tours and participate in community service.

This year’s keynote speaker is Terrence Talley, a nationally known speaker and author whose mission is to “give every student hope and empower them to give hope to others.” His book, “Secrets Anonymous: Our Story” emphasizes the importance of listening to everyone’s story and providing support.
